Opening an Account (Koza)
123

Forms to open accounts are available at bank counters. After filling out all the necessary information, you can open your account. When you apply, you will need to show your Foreign Registration Card or other I.D. which verifies your name and address. In the place of a name stamp (Inkan or Hanko), signatures are also accepted.
When you open your bank account, you will also receive a bank card for use in ATMs (automatic teller machines) and CDs (cash dispensers).

Withdrawals and Deposits
While you can withdraw cash from your account with the bankbook and a name stamp or your signature at the cashier's window, it is more convenient to use your bank card at ATMs and CDs. To withdraw cash from these machines, you will need to enter a four-digit code number which you specified in the form to open your account. It is also common to use ATMs to deposit cash with your bankbook or bank card.

Closing Your Account
You can close your account at the branch where you opened the account. If you used a name stamp for your account, you will also need that stamp to close your account.@

Overseas Remittance (Kaigai Sokin)

Three types of overseas remittance are available -certified bank check, wire remittance, and airmail remittance. You specify which one of the three ways in the Request to Send Funds Overseas form.
Certified bank checks are mailed by you to the party overseas.
Wire and airmail remittance are handled between your bank in Japan and a bank overseas. As the funds are wired directly to the overseas bank, the wire remittance is the fastest and safest of the three.
