Electricity (Denki)

Electricity supplied to ordinary Japanese homes is 100 volts and 50 Hz. When moving from an area with different voltage or frequency, be aware that some of your electronic appliances will not function.
All houses and apartments in Japan are equipped with a circuit breaker in order to prevent accidents related to electric power.

When your appliances do not work
(1) When you use more electricity than the contracted amperage, the circuit breaker automatically shuts off to stop the power supply. Turn off the switch of the appliance which may have caused the cutoff, and turn on the breaker switch to restore the power supply.

(2) The circuit breaker also shuts down due to electrical shorts resulting from mechanical trouble or damaged cords. Unplug the cord of the appliance and turn on the breaker switch to restore the power supply.

Gas

Two types of gas are available in Matsudo -
City gas
provided by Keiyo Gas Company and Propane gas delivered by merchants.
The city gas supplied in Matsudo is type 13A. Before using your gas appliances, be sure to check they are designed for type 12A gas or 13A gas.

Daily Precautions
Be aware of the air when using gas. While cooking with oil, such as deep fried dishes, don't leave the area, if possible.

When You Smell Gas
(1) As city gas is lighter than air, it disperses when you open windows and doors. However, propane gas is heavier than air, which means there is a danger of it staying low to the floor and accumulating behind furniture. Therefore, open windows and doors and sweep propane gas out with a broom.

(2) When gas leaks, avoid turning on electrical switches. Turning on fans, lights and other appliances can ignite the gas and result in an explosion. Do not light matches or smoke.
