When you move into Matsudo or within Matsudo, you will need to go through several formalities.

Non-Japanese Resident Registration (Gaikokujin Toroku)

When you move to a different city, you are required to submit the change of address to the city hall of your new residence within 14 days of your move.

National Health Insurance (Kokumin Kenko Hoken)

When you move to a different city, you are required to submit the change of address to the city hall of your new residence within 14 days of your move.
When you move out of Matsudo City, you are required to return your National Health Insurance Certificate to Matsudo City Hall either in person or by mail.

Moving in: Turn on the circuit breaker switch, fill out the necessary information on the form attached to the breaker and mail it.

Moving in: Have a serviceman from the gas company open the main valve and check your gas appliances for compatibility and safety before using them.
Moving out: Report your move to the gas company which has been supplying gas as well as the gas company in the city where you are moving into 2 days to 1 week prior to move.

Post Office (Yubin Kyoku) : See "Post Offices"

Special postcards to report a change of address are available at post offices. After filling out necessary information on the postcard, mail it to the post office. Post offices forward all your mail addressed to your old address to your new address for one year.   

 


School (Gakko)  See "Education"

It takes a considerable length of time for procedures to register the change of schools for your children. Therefore, you should report to the school as early as possible for necessary proceedings. If you move and the school your children attend doesn't change, you are still required to submit the change of address.

Banks (Ginko:See "Banks") and Driver's License (Unten Menkyosho)   

You are required to report the change of address to the bank.
For your driver's license, you can register the change of address at the local police station or driver's license test center. You are required to bring your Foreign Registration Card or other I.D. in which your new address can be verified.   

 


Exchanging your license for a Japanese license

 

It is possible to apply to exchange your (foreign) license for a Japanese license. Application procedures should be made at the Driver’s License Center / Driver’s License Examination Center of the prefecture you live in.

1 Required items
For details on what documents are required to be presented, enquire at the Driver’s License Center / Driver’s License Examination Center

 

 1)  Driver’s License Application Form (available at the Examination Center)

 2)  1 Photograph (3cm high X 2.4cm wide). Can be taken at the application office for a fee.

 3)  Certificate of Alien Registration

 4)  Foreign Driver’s License (If expiration date is not stated, proof of expiration date is required)

 5)   Passport (with record of entry and departure from relevant countries)

 6)   A Japanese translation of the foreign driver’s license
     * Only translations made by the administrative agency that issued the license, by foreign embassy and 
      consular offices in Japan, or by the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) are accepted.

 7)   Fees vary depending on the type of license.

 


2 The process involved in a regular application
 1) Make application for exchange,  2) Suitability test,  3) Check of one’s knowledge of the rules of the road, 
 4) Driving skills test (Practical driving test on a course at the Driver’s License Examination Center), 
 5) Obtain a Japanese license

 

3  People who hold a license from a country which is a member of the international treaty on exemption from driving knowledge and skills tests need take only the Suitability Test (Tekisei Shiken). However, a practical driving test is required for large two-wheel vehicles.
