The Certificate of Name Stamp Registration is designed to certify that a name stamp imprint on a document was made with a registered name stamp. It is needed for important documents which concern one's legal rights such as contracts for buying and selling a car, telephone lines and so on. 
When you register your name stamp with city hall, a Name Stamp Registration Card will be issued to you.

Application for Name Stamp Registration

Registered Non-Japanese residents who are 15 years of age or older are eligible for this registration. Registration is limited to one stamp per person. An applicant is required to come to Public Service Section (Shimin Ka) or any branch office in person with his/her Alien Registration Card and the stamp to register.

[Fee] 400 yen

Unacceptable Name Stamps
 (1) A stamp which shows any characters different from the name or alias on your Alien Registration Card.
 (2) A stamp made of material which is easily malleable, such as rubber, or engraved rings.
 (3) A stamp with an unclear imprint.
 (4) A stamp with an imprint smaller than 8 mm or larger than 25 mm.
 (5) A stamp which is chipped.


Certificate of Name Stamp Registration (Inkan Toroku Shomeisho)

At Public Service Section (Shimin Ka) or any branch office, show your Stamp Registration Card and fill out the Application Form for Name Stamp Registration Issue as required. 
A proxy is also eligible to apply if he/she brings the applicant's Stamp Registration Card.
